Excellence in Action
In order to extend the research and teaching activities to world wide Ramanujan Centre for Higher Mathematics (RCHM) was started in the year 2006. Dr. Kasthuri Rangan, Former Chairman ISRO supported towards the construction of RCHM and it was declared open by our former Prime Minister Dr. P. Manmohan Singh on 26.12.2011.
The main aim is to provide a high quality education which prepares students for further study and research in Mathematics and for a wide range of career opportunities. To maintain an environment in a research – active centre in which staffs are committed to teach Mathematics as a challenging subject and to provide the support and guidance that students need, and to encourage them to take on responsibility for their educational development.
The Centre aims to conduct and foster outstanding research and learning methods in both pure and applied mathematical sciences, thus contributes and motivates to the next generation of the faculty members and research students in many spheres and the advancement of multicultural environment.
The Research Centre is regularly conducting State Level Quiz Programmes, ATM (Advanced Training in Mathematics) Schools, Workshops for students and faculty members, National and International Conferences.
The members of the research centre collaborate with international experts in their field and with researchers in India to ensure strong Indo-foreign participation in the Centre's programmes, and to stimulate the growth of pan-African research networks and partnerships.
It also maintain close ties with industry by running advanced training programmes associated with particular industrial needs, assisting in capacity building and collaboration on innovative projects.
The Research Centre provides opportunities for resident researchers, visiting research fellows, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral students to work within the research foci of the faculty members of the research Centre like Abstract and Fractional Differential Equations, Stability Analysis of Dynamical Systems, Neural Networks, Synchronization and Chaos Theory, Genetic Algorithms and Regulatory Networks, Graph Theory, Discrete Mathematics, Algorithmic and Algebric Graph Theory.
The Centre is doing research collaborations with various Universities/Institutions/ Research Centre’s like Nanjing University, Jiangsu University of Technology, Nanjing Xiaozhuang University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, China, Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea, University of Bielefeld, Germany, Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation, Australia, University of Derby, UK, Maejo University, Thailand, Taibah University, Saudi Arabia.
Presently we are taking classes for PG Students and also guiding for PhD Scholars in Department of Mathematics at RCHM Campus.
Moreover, we are planning to start M.Sc-PhD Integrated Programme from the academic year 2017 at the Ramanujan Centre for Higher Mathematics (RCHM) in the Alagappa University Campus.
The minimum qualification for admission to the programme concerned is Bachelor's degree in Mathematical Sciences or an equivalent degree from a University recognised by UGC. The candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in the entrance examination conducted by the Alagappa University. The shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed by the faculty members of our department at RCHM. Finally the selection will be made based on the cut-off from the written examination and interview.
The duration of the course shall be equivalent to three academic years. Approximately one third of the course credits are to be earned through a Master's project leading to a Master's thesis. The Integrated M.Sc-PhD programme shall consist of the Course work involving classroom courses as well as a research project leading to the award of the M.Sc. degree (3 years), and Research work leading to a PhD thesis and the award of Ph. D degree. Generally, the course work will be based on courses that have been approved by the syndicate and members of the board of studies of Alagappa University.
The evaluation of the students will be based on continuous assessment (quizzes/problem solving etc) and examinations. The Master's degree project will be evaluated at the end of the fourth semester in the third year. The students those who have a CGPA 7.0 or more at the end of two years and successfully defend their Master's thesis at the end of the third year of the programme shall be eligible for award of the Master's degree. Students who are unsuccessful in earning a CGPA of 7.0 after the first two years shall be considered ineligible for the M. Sc degree.
In order to continue the studies towards a Ph. D degree the students will be required to take a General Comprehensive Examination based on the courses attended during the M. Sc course work. This exam will be conducted for the students those who have fulfilled all the course requirements for the M. Sc degree and the research project.
On satisfactory performance in the comprehensive exam and the successful completion of the M. Sc course work the students can be recommended to register for a PhD.
Moreover, a student will not be allowed more than two attempts to pass the General Comprehensive Examination. In case a student failing to pass the General Comprehensive Examination twice will be deemed ineligible for a PhD degree. They will receive an M.Sc degree after three academic years and on passing the General Comprehensive Exam they can continue research towards a PhD degree.

The fee structure for the M.Sc. Integrated programme for three years at RCHM is as follows:
Our computer laboratories are equipped with 70 Desktop Computers which are in modern, comfortable, high computing facility and high bandwidth connection that includes Wi-Fi, which in turn has several high speed connections to researchers for intensive research works. Here our compute pool consists of homogeneous windows 7 computers. Also, we support all connection protocols popular within the research community.
Furthermore, we are having the commercial scientific software resources include Mathematica, MATLAB, Latex, C++ and Scilab. Several of these packages can be used on all desktop architectures currently supported within our department. A wide variety of open source software utilities and packages are also available. Moreover, a full support for all popular programming environments is available on all platforms.
The faculty members of our department have got the authentication to subscribe articles from Elsevier, Springer, IEEE journals etc., So, there are more than 1000 articles from various journals are freely available for reference.
As we are going to initiate the M.Sc-PhD Integrated Programme from the academic year 2017, the alumni details will be available only after 2022.
Presently we are serving as a coordinator and in charge for the following cells, clubs and others in the Department of Mathematics:
As we are going to initiate the M.Sc-PhD Integrated Programme from the academic year 2017, the placement details will be available only after 2022.
