Department of Computer Science

School of Computational Sciences

The Department of Computer Science has been established in the Academic year 2016-2017. Earlier, 3 years M.Sc. Computer Science (Evening) programme was offered by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering from the academic year 1991-1992. From 1994 onwards, it was converted to 2 years M.Sc Computer Science (Evening) programme. Later the M. Sc Computer Science programme was changed to regular stream from the academic year 2006-2007.

Now it is being offered by the Department of Computer Science. Further the Department is comprising well experienced faculty members with research aptitude and expertise in Data Mining, Information / Network Security, Communication Networks, Databases, Algorithms, Image / Video Processing, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Software Engineering, Operation Research, Mathematical Algorithms, Wireless Communications, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, Semantic Web & Software Development.

    Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics or B.C.A. or any qualification equivalent thereto in 10+2+3 pattern of any recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks in Part-III (minimum 50% marks for SC/ST candidates)

The Department is well equipped with the state of the art Modernized Multipurpose Computer Laboratory. The Computers in the laboratory as well as Department are provided with 24 x 7 Internet connectivity to make the students and staff stay connected with the recent innovations. The Lecture halls are equipped with LCD, Computers and Smart Board to make presentations more interactive

Alumni Association

The Department of Computer Science organized very first Alumni meeting to the first batch [1991-1994] of M. Sc (Computer Science) on 08-07-2016 in the Seminar Hall, Convocation Building, Alagappa University, Karaikudi. The second Alumni meeting were organized on 22-12-2016 to start Alumni Association in the name of “Alagappa University Computer Science Alumni Association [ALUCSAA]. Nearly 70 members attended the meeting. The office bearers were unanimously selected by the participating Alumni members to look after the functionality of the Association. The members presented their views for being Alumni member and various activities to be conducted in the Association. The Alumni is aimed to support the Department of Computer Science by extending placement opportunities, discussion of specific topics, carrier guidance, monetary benefits to conduct seminar, conferences, help to the poor students studying M. Sc (CS) in this University and to improve the infrastructure of the Department of Computer Science, Alagappa University, Karaikudi. An Alumni Account is opened in Indian Bank, Alagappapuram branch to collect subscriptions from the members for conducting various activities of the Association.
